Small Business Profile: Aquila Books

Ever wanted to find that truly special, rare, first print, or signed copy of your favourite author? Aquila Books has put #Calgary on the global map as a trader in true #antiquarian books, posters, and more.

Cameron Treleaven has owned and run the business for 33 years, with the last 26 years at 826 – 16th Avenue NW. Walking in to the space is almost a religious experience for anyone who has a special place in their hearts for the likes of Virginia Woolf, or any of the beat poets, as I do. When it comes to #mountaineering books, Aquila has the best selection in the world!

Cameron travels the world going to antiquarian book fairs, from London to California, and he regularly helps the U of C, the U of A, and the #Glenbow Museum’s archivists in appraising and attaining their collections. Much of his business is online, with a new website coming soon, as well as for individual collectors.

Aquila also has two full-time, and one part-time staff, and the storefront allows an opportunity for local Calgarians to dip their toes in to the world of antiquarian books, knowing they are accessing Cameron’s 30+ years of expertise.

Whatever you do, do not keep a gift from Aquila anywhere near the bottom of your shelf, where a toddler can get near it.
